The aftermath of dealing with the tragic terror attacks in Brussels last week continued to dominate the news. The Economist’s Gulliver Business Travel blog wrote about why acts of terror are unlikely to stop business travelers from hitting the road. Travel Market Report’s Anna Gleskman reported on a GBTA poll showing 81 percent of global companies had effective risk management plans in place following the Brussels attacks. Inc. Magazine wrote about what business owners should know about traveling in Europe after the attacks.
In security news, Scott Mayerowitz reports in USA Today that TSA is falling short of enrollment numbers needed in PreCheck to speed up the screening process. He writes that fliers can expect massive security lines across the nation as airlines are already warning passengers to arrive at least two hours early to avoid the risk of missing their flight. According to Forbes, one in four fliers have never heard of TSA PreCheck and 21 percent of fliers don’t find the program necessary. In the article, reporter Kate Ashford points out that these fliers may not have heard about a recent GBTA survey showing business travelers with TSA PreCheck are much happier with their air travel experience than those not in the program.
The Financial Express highlights GBTA research as well in a story on how business travel is changing in India. GBTA data shows India’s business travel has been witnessing the highest growth rates across the globe.
The New York Times talks about using apps to ease the headache of navigating airports, reporting specifically on American’s “wayfinding” capability within their app. It provides travelers customized information and directions on its airport maps. Hotels are also seeing technology in action as Hotel Management reports on how technology and robotics are changing the front desk.
Many hotels are also taking on a new look according to the Seattle Times in an article that talks about how experienced travelers are not all pleased with hotels’ new minimalist styles. Vogue, meanwhile, dives into the look of the radical airline cabins of the future.
For travel buyers, Skift’s Hannah Sampson reports on the cost of last minute booking for businesses.
